Featured piece: Untitled, by Jane Callister.
Drips rise in the world that Callister presents the viewer in her painting on paper, Untitled. Our eyes are first dropped into an isolated island or in other words; a vacuum world. This is not just in the composition’s central isolation but in the way that the domain which is closed off by empty space, stretches itself out on the paper. The ink is pulled up vertically like water that defies gravity and is sucked up into the atmosphere. Behind them, soft rounded warm gray forms sit in the background, they are gentle and stabilizing. Drips reach out diagonally to the bottom portion of the work, and then make a hard right turn forming a connected yet disjointed grid, allowing the viewer to understand where everything sits in space. Off to the right the material rumbles and travels like a liquid avalanche. To the left a different personality occurs, calm, still, and serene.
Amidst all this activity a bright red and comforting green sit quietly without movement. It is underlined with a strip of white, and this form becomes a vessel. There is warmth here that does not occur anywhere else and it rests confidently and unmoved.
