Robert Ortbal: Different Parts of Remembering

November 10 thru December 23, 2010

Robert Ortbal received his MFA at UC Davis in 1989, and joined the faculty at CSU Sacramento as a sculpture professor in the Fall of 2005. He is newly inspired in this current work by a sense of place and an indirect reference to landscape. This might seem like there are realistic elements here but mostly there is not, rather his materials remain very non traditional, transient and fanciful and the imagery, otherworldly. Also, this is the premier exhibit of Ortbal’s etchings made at the prestigious Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residence at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Otis, OR.

Recent exhibits include the Benign: Growth and Neglect, Weigand Gallery, Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont, CA (catalogue published in conjunction with exhibit) UC Berkeley Art Museum, Oakland Museum at City Center, Oakland Museum, and Cabrillo College. Recently commissioned piece titled Flora and Fauna, was completed in 2010 for the city of Emeryville.
