Dean DeCocker: Running at Full Tilt

September 12 – October 27, 2012

Dean DeCocker returns to JAYJAY by popular demand!  No one makes wall sculpture like DeCocker; they are elegant and funny, graceful and modern, always dramatic.

DeCocker received his MFA from Claremont Graduate University and is a professor of fine art at CSU Stanislaus. He has shown throughout California and Arizona and his work can be found in many private and public collections.

The gigantic Hangar One, near Stanford University, is an example of how industrial design has informed DeCocker’s work over the last twenty years. The hangar’s 1930’s steel girders covered by galvanized steel sheets are the epitome of how modernism was able to transform brutal materials into aerodynamic and compelling industrial architecture. This exhibit continues DeCocker’s obsession with these ideas, and here he adds new materials to his vocabulary with thin powder-coated linear structures and clear plastic tubing.
