Stuart Allen: Constructive Interference

June 14 through July 26, 2014

Second Saturday Reception on June 14, 6 to 8 pm
Live Jazz and Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen!

Stuart Allen, who lives and works in San Antonio, returns to Sacramento to present new photographs – once again making profound statements with very minimal images. The artist says it best: “I am interested in the behavior of light. This series exploits an optical phenomenon that occurs when visible light is distorted by the thin film membrane of a soap bubble. Soap bubbles deconstruct daylight, amplifying some wavelengths while canceling others out, creating an array of color that speaks to the complexity and mutability of what we see as ‘white’ light.”

Allen received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1993 and has exhibited widely including one person shows at the Crocker Art Museum and the San Antonio Art Museum. His work is in numerous public collections including the Crocker Art Museum, United States Embassy, Ottawa, Canada, City of Davis Police Headquarters and Kaiser Permanente Women and Children’s Hospital, Roseville, CA.
