Michaele LeCompte: Migration of Form

March 10 – April 23, 2011

JAYJAY is proud to present Migration of Form, new paintings and collages from Michaele LeCompte, a one person exhibit from this gifted Sacramento City College painting instructor. LeCompte is often associated with vivid color and abstracted forms, as her work is firmly planted in the 20th century and inspired by those Modern Masters: Matisse and Picasso.

In this body of work, LeCompte is using geometric forms, such as rectangles and squares, but painting them with a thick impasto application of paint, giving them drama and emotion. She is opening up areas of the canvas with larger rectangular shapes that are tilted and leaning, lending movement to the painting. Finally, this new work is predominately limited in palette, pushing the forms in shades of black, grey, white, and cream. The large paintings are complimented by LeCompte’s new collages on paper, composed and assembled from recycled work, but with more negative space–punctuations among these shifting paintings.
